Major Pennant Report – Round 5 V Royal Sydney

Thanks to ongoing course renovations, Royal Sydney’s home games for the 2025 season were hosted by their close friends, The Australian Golf Club, which is widely considered to be one Australia’s most exclusive and prestigious venues.

While both teams exhibited some exceptional play, Royal Sydney’s familiarity with the course undoubtedly worked to their advantage. At the turn, the host side led in four matches and were square in one.

Cumberland’s resolve didn’t waver, and the balance shifted early on the back nine as the margins in a couple of matches began to narrow. Ultimately, however, course knowledge and experience made the difference, with the home side claiming the victory.

Isaak Pemble secured an impressive 4&3 win, while Josh Russo and Bailey Leafe took the fight to the 18th hole, each finishing square.

The loss means that first place is now just out of reach (barring some highly unlikely results). Nevertheless, the team is determined to finish the year on a high note with a strong home-ground victory this weekend.

Final result: Royal Sydney 5 def. Cumberland 2

The team would like to extend heartfelt thanks to all the family, friends, and members who took the time to come out to The Australian Golf Club to lend their support – it is always deeply appreciated.
Our next game is on Sunday, 9 March, at Cumberland against Royal Sydney, with tee-off scheduled for 7 a.m.

As always, your support would be immensely welcomed, and we hope to see you all out on the course for our final match of the season!

Individual results:
Isaak Pemble won 4&3
Josh Russo square
Chris George lost 4&3
Josh Madeleine lost 3&2
Hayden Smith lost 3&1
Peter Takla lost 7&5
Bailey Leafe square

Western Districts Round 2 at Stonecutters Ridge GC V Cabramatta

The Cumberland ladies backed up from last Friday’s win with another great result of 3:2 against Cabramatta. Our number 1 Helen Cho and number 2 Won Je Joo had very tough competition today, but the number 3, 4 and 5 players fought hard to bring home the win. Well done Jane Lavercombe, Monica Lee and Trish Johnston.

Next Monday the team play at Massey Park against Brighton Lakes.

Good luck ladies!
